The main scientific and technical goal of this project is to obtain innovative products: a feed supplement for animal feed for the development of new feed recipes, based mainly on a mixture of spent brewer’s yeast from the brewing industry with enriched wet yeast biomass with microelements (organic zinc), polyphenols and vitamins and also a mixture of used brewer’s yeast with inorganic zinc. The comparative test will be done “in vivo” on laying hens and the antioxidant activity will be evaluated. Through these activities, the “ZINCOPPYEAST” consortium will contribute to a better characterization of the new products and provide scientific knowledge regarding the effect of the new product on the condition general health of laying hens and their ability to improve stress response.
The recovery of used brewer’s yeast will be very important for the environment, because it was considered a waste. Also, in this project, we will determine the homogeneity, shelf life and stability of yeast-based supplement with zinc, polyphenols, vitamins, in different premixes of laying hens, concentrates and feeds. During the production of bird feed, several technological procedures are carried out, which involve the use of high temperatures (pelletization-crushing, sanitization, expansion). The organoleptic (sensory) characteristics of eggs produced by hens will be analyzed. Innovative bio-ingredients as new feed supplements for new animal feed recipes will then be submitted as patent applications.
The main scientific and technical objective of this project consists in obtaining innovative products: a feed supplement for animal feed for new recipes, based mainly on the mixture of spent brewer’s yeast from the brewing industry and wet yeast biomass enriched with trace elements (organic zinc) , polyphenols and vitamins and also the mixture of spent brewer’s yeast with inorganic zinc. The comparative test will be done in vivo on laying hens, and the antioxidant activity will be evaluated.
The main objectives of the project are:
– obtaining a new bio-ingredient for animal feed, a yeast biomass enriched with organic zinc, polyphenols by capitalizing on brewer’s yeast;
-This new product, based on the mixture of spent brewer’s yeast from the brewing industry with wet yeast biomass enriched with organic zinc, vitamins and polyphenols, will lead to a new feed supplement for laying hens. It will be tested against another new feed supplement based on dried brewer’s yeast and inorganic zinc in the new recipe for laying hens.
-Identification and characterization of the in vivo effects of the new feed supplement for the health of laying hens.
The project will investigate the effect of new combinations, new mixtures between spent brewer’s yeast with wine yeast biomass, or with the yeast consortium (newly selected wine yeast and brewer’s yeast), Zn-enriched wet biomass and polyphenols, to produce a feed supplement, which will be tested on laying hens.
STAGE I. Development and design of new bio-ingredients, new feed recipes and nutrition program design.-Partial (3.11.2017-31.12.2017)
Stage II. Elaboration and design of new bio-ingredients, new fodder recipes and nutrition program conception.-(FINALIZATION) and Development of new bio-ingredients based on yeast biomass with zinc/organic zinc, polyphenols, and their experimental evaluation, in vivo to be used as a supplement with an antioxidant role in the feed of laying hens enriched in zinc, polyphenols. Dissemination of results – article/presentation at a conference (Partial) (1.01.2018-31.12.2018)
Stage III Development of new bio-ingredients (finalization) and pilot-level validation of bio-ingredients and feed recipes (partial). Dissemination of results. Presentation of work at a conference/published article (1.01.2018-31.12.2019)
Stage IV Validation at pilot level of bioingredients and feed recipes (finalization). Scale up at industrial level regarding the testing of new feed recipes on laying hens (1.01.2019-3.11.2020)
